Serviceberry

Serviceberries or Juneberries make fine jams and jellies. If you have never tasted serviceberries, you are missing a treat. I describe it as a combination of a plum and a pear. We sell several varieties. Some are 15' tall. They all produce fruit. Unfortunately, the birds think they are very tasty as well, and tend to harvest them about 3 days before we think they are ready to eat. So, the easiest variety to cover with bird netting is Regent Saskatoon. This hardy zone 2 shrub tops out at about 4'- 6'.
